Location
The castle is situated in Strada in Chianti, a village in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in Florentine Chianti.
The toponym designates a wide hilly area in Tuscany that stretches in the provinces of Florence and Siena. In the Middle Ages, the region, populated since Etruscan and Roman times, was the theatre of a series of bloody wars involving the Florentine and Sienese armies, which ended only around the middle of the 16th century with the victory of Florence.
Nowadays the region is rich in interesting churches and abbeys, fortresses and castles - the most famous being the abbey of Passignano, the castles of Gabbiano and Bibbione and the ruins of the castle of Semifonte -, and of charming villages such as Montefioralle and Panzano. The many farms scattered in the hills covered with olive groves and vineyards produce the fine extra-virgin olive oil and the celebrated Chianti wine.
Description
The castle, which has been declared a "Period Residence", was built in various periods: the most ancient part - the walls and the imposing tower - dates back to the 10th century; the body of the castle, the arcades, the courtyard and the hanging garden were realized in the 13th century; and the private chapel was added in the 17th century, when the complex was refurbished and embellished.
The monuments of Florence historic center are within 20 kilometers of the castle. Siena, Arezzo and many other Tuscan cities of art and tourist destinations are within easy driving distance. A tennis club, a riding stable and a golf club are in proximity to the estate.
The panoramic swimming pool (6x12 m; depth: 1.40 m) is at guests' disposal in the hanging garden that commands the surrounding countryside, as well as a table for having meals al fresco.
A wing of the castle is equipped for hosting meetings and ceremonies.
Accommodation
The castle is divided into six apartments of various sizes. It composes of a living room with dining area, four double bedrooms, four twin bedrooms, seven bathrooms and two half bathrooms. An equipped kitchen and a dining room with a large fireplace are at guests' disposal.
