The Villa Corsi in Florence
Villa Corsi is located in Sesto Fiorentino, near Florence. The villa has belonged to the family Corsi since 1502 and the coat of arms of the Corsi family is green with a red lion and an oblique strip silver.
The country house was sold by Luca Simone Andrea Carnesecchi to Jacopo Corsi in 1502. He began the renovation of the house which were then continued by his son John for a few years starting in 1567. A work of Alexander the Barber depicts the villa and the garden with a fountain and portico as it was in the mid-sixteenth century. In the mid-seventeenth century the villa was extensively enlarged and modified the garden. In the seventeenth century, the villa has four towers and the garden has a round tank with flower beds around the center, a garden and a citrus orchard.
In the eighteenth century Antonio Corsi decided to make new changes. He adorned the facade of the villa and eliminated the two towers near the road. At the center of the facade he put obelisks and statues near the garden. New decorations embellished the aviaries, the new rectangular pool and water games were created close to the avenue. An engraving by Giuseppe Zocchi represents the villa in the eighteenth century with its many statues.
The rooms of the villa are frescoed. In particular, we mention Cupid and Psyche in the middle of a vault and paintings by Alessandro Fei called Barbiere. Nice also the depictions of allegories of Water and Fire painted by Eugene Agneni mid-nineteenth century and the particular pictorial decoration with faux Egyptian columns on a natural landscape.
