Historic villas in Livorno

Thanks to its seaport, Livorno has always woven economic and cultural relations with other nations and other important ports in the Mediterranean today as in centuries past. These relationships have increased even more especially after the loss of the importance and supremacy of Pisa on the territory. The noble families from Livorno began especially in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to build and beautify their houses outside the walled city.

Villa Fabbricotti is one of the oldest villas in Livorno and it is a Medici villa. In the 17th-century the Medici family owned it. Many were the owners throughout the centuries and today houses the Biblioteca Labronica, the most important state library in Livorno. The park is opened to the public even if, compared to the original one, some parts were sold to privates. Villa Mimbelli sia villa from the 1800 and it was built by the architect Vincenzo Micheli. Today it houses a museum and the barns hosts exhibitions and shows. 

Also Villa Henderson houses a museum. The villa has the name of its Scottish owner, George Henderson, who bought it in 1900. The villa has origins dating back to the 1700. The wide park of Villa Corridi is open to the inhabitants of Livorno and to its visitors. The villas belongs since 1800 to the Corridi family and it is located on the Livorno hills. The Livorno coast is famous for its amazing eclectic and Art Nouveau villas. Among them there is Villa Jana in Quercianella and Villa Scialhub.
