Villa Fabbricotti in the province of Livorno

Villa Fabbricotti is open to the public and there are no entrance fees. The property belonged probably even to the Medici family and in the centuries passed to several different owners. In 1881, Thomas Lloyd sold the property to Mr. Bernardo Fabbricotti who decided to extend the villa and renovate the park. Bernardo Fabbricotti called the architect Vincenzo Micheli for the project. The architect Micheli, in fact, he was known for his work at Villa Mimbelli. The entrances to the park and the villa were many: from Via Roma and then from Piazza Matteotti with beautiful gardens and gates and walls decorated with busts and statues in marble.
In 1936, the family Fabbricotti was forced to sell the villa and the park. In the years before, they had built an outdoor theater and a skating rink, a hobby they particularly enjoyed. The park was about 27 acres and was extremely well looked after by gardeners and nurserymen. In the park there were plants of oaks, palms, magnolias, cypresses, cedars and eucalyptus trees.
Today, both the villa and the park belong to the municipality of Livorno and can be visited free of charge. Many are those who like to spend an afternoon in the park. Unfortunately over the years the extension of the park has diminished since the municipality has dedicated significant land portions, once belonging to Villa Fabbricotti, for the construction of houses and buildings. Inside the villa there is the seat of the Library Labronica. In addition, there are important works in marble, including the sculpture of Paolo Emilio Demi entitled Mother Educator.
