Pietrasanta is famous for being the capital of the Versilia. Its medieval old town is very well preserved and the beauty of the surrounding area has made Pietrasanta a popular tourist destination. There are numerous events, exhibitions and shows in the streets of the town center.

The Duomo di Pietrasanta is a magnificent example of Romanesque-Gothic style dating from the thirteenth century. In the main square of the town there is the Clock Tower, the Municipal Theatre and various buildings from the 16th century.
The historic center is characterized by very impressive underground tunnels, medieval walls and the `Rocca di Sala`, which offers a breathtaking view of Versilia and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.

The squares and streets of the town are an exhibition of works of art in the open air: sculptures by artists such as Botero, Folon, Kan Yasuda and Igor Mitoraj are visible to all.
