Tuscany is divided into ten provinces. Province of Florence: Florence is the capital of Tuscany and the most famous and visited city of the region. The province includes the Mugello, the Arno valley and the Florentine Chianti. Province of Siena: Siena is the seoncd most visited Tuscan city after Florence. Beautiful villages dot the gorgeous landscape of the Sienese countryside, with its vineyards. Province of Arezzo: Arezzo is known in the world because of its goldsmiths. The province spreads between the Chianti and Umbria and includes the Casentino. Province of Prato: it is the most recent of the ten Tuscan provinces. Prato is the industrial heart of the region and is famous for its textile industries. Province of Pistoia: although it does not attract many tourists, Pistoia is rich in works of art. The province includes the Abetone ski resort and the two spa resorts of Montecatini Terme and Monsummano Terme. Province of Lucca: Lucca is situated between Florence and the sea. The province includes the Versilian Riviera, with its beaches that in summer fill with tourists, and the wooded areas of Garfagnana and High Versilia. Province of Massa-Carrara: the Apuan Alps, with their marble quarries, dominate the two cities of Massa and Carrara. Michelangelo himself went to the Apuan Alps to choose the blocks of marble he would use for his masterpieces. In the north-western part of the province spreads the Lunigiana. Province of Pisa: Pisa is known all over the world because of the Leaning Tower. The province is rich in rolling hills and nice country villages. In the southern part of the province there is the ancient Etruscan city of Volterra. Province of Livorno: Livorno is a charming harbour city, full of restaurants serving excellent fish dishes. The province spreads from north to south along the coast and includes the Isle of Elba and other islands of the Tuscan archipelago. Province of Grosseto: Grosseto is the major city of the Maremma. In this area, once a marshland that has now been completely reclaimed, a regional nature park has been founded. In summer the beaches of the province are full of tourists. In the eastern part of the province rises the highest mount of Tuscany, the Mount Amiata, whereas in the south there are many Etruscan archaelogical sites.
