Castagneto Carducci is located not far from the coast and is a wonderful medieval village built on a hill. The Gherardesca Castle was built in the eleventh century and the streets of the old town are still those of a typical medieval village: small and evocative. The city was named Castagneto Marittimo but changed its name in honor of one of the greatest Italian poets, Carducci. Today you can visit the House of Carducci.
