The Municipality of Gaiole in Chianti is an area rich in Romanic churches and Castles. Historically it was the border line of the Florentine area but today is in the province of Siena, 367 m above sea level and with about 2,500 inhabitants
The area of Gaiole is crossed by a real “Castles Road”, where it is possible to find various important marks of the process which gave to this area so many castles during the Middle Age. The first one is the Cacchiano Castle, built in the XIII century by the Ricasoli Family, destroyed by the Aragonese in 1478 and rebuilt in 1530. From the same family, Gaiole has inherited the Castle of Brolio, a building of Lombard origin which became a Neo-Gothic villa in the XIX century. Moreover, few km far from Gaiole, on a hill there is the Castle of Monteluco
Gaiole in Chianti is in a central position with regards to the Chianti valley: this is the reason why here took place a fruitful market. Badia a Coltibuono, with its Romanic church which is also one of the most ancient monuments of Tuscany, are worth being visited
